Netball is an incredibly popular sport and one that continues to thrive especially among women. Netball is actually pretty straightforward to get into and it’s also a very fun social sport. It requires 7 players in each team, and the structure of the game is actually pretty similar to basketball, where the game was derived from.
In this blog, we will explore the netball equipment and gear required to carry out a successful game!
A goal post is without a shadow of a doubt, crucial to the game of netball and this is for a whole host of reasons. It is placed at the midpoint of each goal line and unlike the goal post used in basketball, this goal post comes with no backboard. It does however come equipped with a metal ring with an internal diameter of 38cm, this is where the net hangs from, coming out from the top of the post.
The goal shooter of the team needs to shoot the ball through the hoop to score a goal and this is not as easy as it looks. Some of these goal posts are padded to reduce the risk of injuries occurring should a player knock into the post.
There are actually a few different types of netball used for the game and often, it very much comes down to preference. Most pro-netball leagues tend to opt for a 27-28 inch ball with a weight of roughly around 16 ounces. Netballs tend to be made from leather or rubber material. It’s certainly useful to have a backup ball for the game as well.
A netball court can be based indoors or outside, it’s very much just a case of making sure you have the correct court markings. This is often carried out using a court marking tape when a netball game is played indoors on vinyl and wooden flooring.
